The Principles of Styling workshop is mixture of lecture and hands-on learning. In the morning I gave a lecture on the principles and talked about how to style detail shots as well as how to produce full editorials. Then, photographers put into practice what they learned at the “styling stations.” Finally, there were two sample editorials for photographers to capture. The next workshop will likely be this fall (though it can be taken in a one-on-one format too), you can visit here for more information.
For my sample editorial, I was inspired by the preppy look of the barn at Hammersky Vineyards, so I styled a chic Hampton’s inspired BBQ. First, I picked a blue and white striped linen as the jumping off point for my table. For a punch of spring color, Lavenders Flowers arranged centerpieces with daffodils, narcissus and sweet peas. In between the flowers I styled with platters of homemade mini corn muffins with honey, classic corn on the cob, pork sliders, a farmers market salad, and pitcher of lemonade. Place settings featured sleek spartan plates and classic bone flatware from The Ark. For the model, I chose an off the shoulder white blouse and cute navy blue sailor shorts from Anthropologie paired with modernist jewelry from VLM Jewelry.
A special thanks to Hammersky Vineyards for hosting us at their beautiful property and to all the vendors who contributed to the workshop! And be sure to check out the feature on a 100 Layer Cake right here.
