So excited to see this modern tropical wedding inspiration shoot featured on 100 Layer Cake. This was the editorial I styled this past November at The Principles of Styling workshop.

Inspired by the colors of the late 60’s and early 70’s the dark eggplants, orange-y reds, and deep cranberries, I wanted to create a contemporary wedding editorial that was all about color. For hair and makeup, Jess Wilcox created a reverse smoky eye which really highlighted the model’s exotic features. For the first bridal look, I pulled a fitted, short, peplum dress from Stone Fox Bride and paired it with classic gold strappy shoes from Kate Whitcomb. Modernist jewelry from VLM Jewelry added a contemporary feel to the overall look. And for her bouquet, bright reds, oranges were accented with lavender, and the cafe tones of Distant Drums. All was paired with a plethora of mustard ribbon called Oro from Tono & Co .

For the table, I wanted it to feel like a dutch still life meets the colorful 60’s and 70’s. I wanted to play with the idea of tone on tone wood, and picked a simple trestle table and benches from Barn Relic as the jumping off point. I found these insane teak, spindly, taper holders from Porch which added even more wood texture. I paired them with them face vase (isn’t she pretty?!), and simple white vases to hold the stunning flowers. To add some more moody accents, I placed rustic black platters of tropical fruit with mini pies by Lele Patisserie in between the florals and tapers. Underneath, a silk runner in peach by Tono & Co softened the overall look. For plates, The Ark‘s terra cotta plates added more color with copper napkin rings featuring velum with guest’s names for a unique place card idea by Susan Silverberg.

Special thanks to my vendors and workshop partners:
