I’m taking over today’s Escape to… as a run up to my sister’s UK wedding that will run on Monday here, and on Snippet & Ink. Tracy (my sister) and I did some serious damage here. Hands down the most insane antiquing to be had, Portobello Road is lined with countless antique shops and on Saturdays the whole street is taken over by stalls for selling even more antiques.
From the ubiquitous tea cups, to tons of letterpress type, to cut crystal, to jewelry, to fine silver, even miniature bound books, doll house furniture, you name it, its here.
If you plan to hit the Saturday market, come early, its gets pretty crowded and be prepared for sensory overload. Bring lots of cash (the atm line is atrocious) and water. And it is England, so bring an umbrella too, and bags to carry your finds away. And at the end of the market, there’s a ton of food stalls offering up some surprisingly good eats (and pretty cheap for London).
You can see more about antiquing in London for my sister’s wedding here, here, here and here.
