Citrus Wedding InspirationPortfolio Shoot for The Komans
Named Best of 2017, Style Me Pretty

I’m so excited this portfolio shoot for The Komans was named as one of the “Best of 2017” shoots. I was inspired by the annual blooming of citrus blossom that happens every spring in Santa Barbara. For decor, I foraged lemon on the branch with citrus blossom (this had to be the best smelling shoot ever) which Coco Rose Design then incorporated into the floral arrangements on the table and in the bouquet. Susan Silverberg created a lemon themed invitation with a beautiful line drawing of citrus which I styled with gorgeous citrine earrings from 33 Jewels and more lemon on the branch.

For the bridal styling, I was inspired by the slightly Spanish feel to Musat’s wedding dresses. I chose a bold red lip and a sleek hairstyle featuring retro finger waves that gathered into a chic and modern chignon by Kohnur. For the ceremony look, the custom dress featured a full skirt, billowy sleeves and a modern take on lace that I absolutely loved. For jewelry, I chose simple yellow Citrine earrings (don’t they look like candy?) which caught and reflected the light. And for the ring, an insane flower ring made by local jeweler, 33 Jewels.

For the tabletop design, it was all about color and I picked La Tavola’s new velvet runners in “Golden” as the base for the table. Simple white and clear place settings from Pretty Vintage Rentals and my brass goblets made up the placesettings. And for a unique place card idea, I placed the name card underneath the clear plate with some citrus leaves and individual lilac blooms. Lush floral arrangements in terra cotta compotes featured featuring citrus on the branch, nasturtium, orchids, and parrot tulips. In between, I placed taper candles from Creative Candles in cafe au lait and then scattered lemon in between.

Finally, what’s a better way to use lemons than to make a lemon kumquat cocktail?

Lemon Kumquat Cocktail Recipe:

.5 oz Cutler vodka

.75 oz Homemade kumquat cordial (or St. Germain)

1oz Meyer lemon juice

Large Pinch Earthtrine Farm fresh tarragon

Combine in shaker, shake vigorously, double stain into chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a tarragon sprig and a Meyer lemon twist.

A special thanks to the Santa Barbara Historical Museum for hosting the shoot and all the vendors who contributed!

Prop Styling for ShoesPhotos by Jose Villa for Kate Whitcomb Shoes

prop-stylist-for-shoes003

It was so much fun prop styling for shoes for the new company, Kate Whitcomb. I have a pretty well documented love of shoes (ahem, Shoesday) so when I got the inquiry, I was super pumped. Kate’s shoes are unique as you can personalize your shoes with your wedding date, name, etc. She wanted pretty product shots to use for her social media and marketing material. She wanted each shoe shot to feature other elements, as if this was the still life shot of a real bride’s wedding day items. I pulled belts, veils, and headpieces from Untamed Petals and Solstice Bride.

We had twelve shots on the list, including a craftsman shot to go with her about page, a pink shot for breast cancer awareness month, a “will you be my bridesmaid” shot, and an overall shot with multiple shoes lined up organically. One of my favorite shots from the day was the craftsman shot. I made a “bouquet” with worn tools I borrowed from local Santa Barbara leather worker, Makesmith and tied it with pink Adorn Ribbon. Then I layered in a swatch of lace from one of the shoes, Kate Whitcomb emblems, and old wood shoe lasts from Etsy.

All was expertly captured by the one and only Jose Villa.

Editorial: Astrology Bride Part I

Now that Flutter Magazine is out with all 12 looks I thought it would be fun to share some additional photos from the shoot. This look is Libra and I was inspired by Gwyenth Paltrow’s style, really simple, modern and timeless. For the dress I used a body hugging Nicole Miller dress and paired it with a Waxing Poetic chain.

A simple jeweled band was used instead of a veil.

A sparkly bag (vintage, J.Crew) and a modern engagement ring from 33 Jewels.

For the hair and makeup, loose curls and daring red lips added a hint of retro glamour to the look.

For Gemini, I was inspired Marilyn Monroe and I choose a sexy mermaid gown by Lee Ann Belter.

Paired with BHLDN’s seaspray veil and vintage white earrings, the look had a little nod to the 60’s.

For Leo, I was inspired by Jackie O. The textured wedding gown and lace tip veil where a nod’s to Jackie’s wedding style. I used a Watter’s ballgown (the dress has pockets people!) and paired it with BHLDN’s scalloped lace fingertip veil and insane vintage pearls from the 1920’s from 33 Jewels.

Seriously, can you stand the clasp on this necklace! I’ll be sharing more of the looks throughout the week, so stay tuned for the remaining 9 looks.
